About

We're The Engine. We were created by MIT as a home for Tough Tech founders building the next generation of world-changing companies. We provide these companies a mix of long-term capital, access to specialized infrastructure and facilities, and the platform to collaborate and learn from a broad network of founders, investors, academics, and corporations. Our Cambridge, MA co-working and lab space houses many of the companies in which we invest, as well as hosts events for the larger Tough Tech ecosystem. Tough Tech solves the world’s most important challenges through the convergence of breakthrough science, engineering, and leadership. It's tech like commercial fusion power, long-term renewable energy storage, quantum computing, super-efficient optical materials, cell engineering, and more.
